The War of Torrent.

Torrent is a Dungeons and Dragon’s campaign that I am the Dungeon Master for. I decided to post the overview of the party’s endeavors since their first session. I have marked down session events for convenience.

  • The Torrent Adventure.

Preamble

Torrent Is the home of two Empires that break apart into two separate nations. MelFang, the Heavily wooded lands of the east and Sar” Kahl the hot Savannah lands of the west. Divided by the Koravar mountain range. To ensure that that their borders are clear guarded by the Dwarven Kingdoms of Lowbeck and Shindraw. Most of the times these nations never saw eye to eye often accusing others of possible assaults on their borders.
More so than recently after the assassination of several ambassadors from the nation of Sar” Kahl when they were passing through Ganaford, MelFang’s most active harbor town. Melfang’s emperor, Uisdean Singleir in an attempt to levy the supposed assassination sent his son Prince Theoren Singleir to ensure the possibility of peace by marrying the third in line for Sar Kahl’s throne Princess Magiri Renata. His son has not been heard from leaving the empire of Melfang believing they have killed him as retribution for the death of their ambassadors. Sar” Kahl’s current claim however suggest they have nothing to do with such action. Leaving the adventuring party on the borders of Melfang

Session-1

With war is on the brink on the Nation of Torrent. With an unknown force at play we see the formation of the possible heroes who now venture forth.

·        Onarr Frostfang: The Dragonborn Barbarian from the Rimreaver tribe, out on a pilgrimage to obtain glory for his clan.

·        ChirpChirpChirpChirpChirpChirp (Cheddar) The crazy gnome who obsesses over wood, nuts and sheep.

·        Rowan Tebaldus: A Servant to the Silver Flame who wishes to turn his life around after being grief stricken by the death of his late master.

·        Dragana Ula: The Girl who yields the might of an unknown being.

These four heroes’ paths crossed whatever it be by coincidence or by the cosmic forces that dictate the order of the world. The four were recruited by Balsa the town’s only Blacksmith after hearing that merchant caravan is two days overdo setting out into the woods around Twin-Rooke. Shockingly the caravan laid disturbed by a scouting party of goblins who attempted to flee with only one escaping. Onar made an unsettling discovery of military grade weaponry being with in their grasp. Willing to investigate farther they prepared to raid the new goblin cave that was several miles away from the town of the foot hills of the Koreavor Mountains. Through an ingenious use of Guerrilla tactics, they captured one and interrogated the only common speaking goblin in the group. Choosing to avoid the eastern caves they traversed westward encountering numerous chests and an ominous black steel door. Eventually after hours of exploring the cave they found the leaders den where they eliminated the chief.

Session-2

Our four heroes had ventured through the cave to find them selves face to face with a goblin leader. A rather lackluster fight later and the goblin chief laid on the ground decapitated with its head mashed against a wall. Looting the room lead to the discovery of a mysterious key on the goblin chief’s corpse. Before continuing the intrepid adventures return to the hastily made goblin cage where Pilluck the “convoy guard” was currently detained. A few questions later Pilluck got desperate and revealed the truth about himself, He was a not a convoy guard but a smuggler who was in the middle of delivering a potion of Fire Breathing to Ganaford Harbor on the southern shores of Melfang. They let him go vowing that they will end his life should he cross their path again. They returned to the entrance after examining the door again to see the same kind of Arcane force that the door was emanating from the key and seemed to hold a light magnetic pull to the mysterious door. Rowan decided to mark down the details in the door to the best of his efforts, while a bored Onarr and Cheddar decided to scout ahead looking for anything of interests to the party. A quick scouting trip later and the team returned to the front where the team’s captured goblin was still screaming to be released. The creatures name was revealed to be Gullet, a front cave guard who was there the day the goblins moved into this pit. He revealed that the Spider that lurked in the cave was locked behind the mysterious door and was somehow different resulting in his nest to force a mother bear they called “The Brown One” to try and destroy the large creature. They let him go believing his usefulness had expired and returned with a crate of Melfang military grade weaponry discussing with Balsa their findings. Balsa was concerned and thanked them for their trouble They planned to return after Rowan and Dragona spent time consulting his notes of religious text only to find that neither his nor his former master, Zarrek had details describing the weird carvings. His studies were interrupted by a war priest from the Silver Flame leaving Zarrek’s final message to his prodigy. Two days past with little luck and rumors of the whereabouts of the other clan members who are on the Warriors wake pilgrimage that Onarr himself is on. They returned to the cave to only hear noises as they dived deep into the cave only to find a desperate Gullet trying to destroy the Monstrous Spider who had built her Nest in one of the sprawling caverns. A Fight transpired resulting in the lost of the Spider’s leg. Outrage the Spider went through a rapid metamorphosis to it’s true form that of an Arcananid, a Spider like monstrosity that innate has the ability to absorb elemental damage to bolster it’s attack. It terribly wounds Rowan injecting it’s venom which had been converted to liquid hot magma before being destroyed by Onarr. Gullet thankful for saving him brought the adventures to the goblin’s treasure hoard where they gained many new items including Pilluck’s potion of fire breathing. They eventually let the Bear out as well and returned to the mysterious door that lead farther into the depths of the earth. The cave took on a more man made appearance as they found a storage room filled to the brim with weaponry that looked to belong to whoever’s faction was their clan’s enemy. A Mage appeared in a mirror sending them into an unknown dominion that was a giant obsidian carved maze. Venturing through the adventures found themselves interacting with orbs that attracted mephitis to their very presence. Eventually the they solved the door and found the exit gate to be guarded by a Minotaur. The fight did not last long with Rowan falling in battle in a reckless attack by the Minotaur leaving himself open to Onarr’s Icey breath. They returned to find a panicked Gullet and a a half surprised Balsa who revealed that they had been gone for two weeks and Melfang had officially declared war on the western nation of Sahr” Kahl. Thankfully they are alive Balsa agreed to build some attachments to Onarr’s Great Sword and try to fashion something out of the Arcananid’s exoskeleton at a reduced price for bringing him the materials. It would take him a week to finish meaning the whole clan has down time for the week.

During the week many had strange things happen to them.

·       Onarr had visions of his final test against the brute Terrinaxe. His vision clouded by the desire his opponent to die. Stopped at the last second by The Earth-Reader who told him to under stand the wrath of a dragon. Their rage was not simply a mere tool but rather than a means to an end that if it consumes his entire being would result in a unquenchable battle madness. Rather than let it consume him it he told him sound advise to channel his anger to ensure that he knows when the wrath of a dragon is a asset before declaring that the four warriors of his clan are now ready for proving their worth to the clan vowing to bring back the Rimfang before returning. Onarr now ventures down the Path of the Berserker.

·       Cheddar was visited by Pal’gore the High Elf Druid that trained her in the arts of natural magic. Explaining the place that the druid lies as the standing point of the Natural World and the ones that must coexist with its beauty. Showing her that she is more than just a force of nature but a leader of the wilds that will grow to trust her on her quest. Cheddar had chosen to follow the Druidic Circle of the Sheppard.

·       Dragana reawakened in her slumber to find her self in the Jaded Throne room of her Patron who admits to being fascinated by her accomplishments thus far as his plan continues behind the scenes. Grateful for her devotion he bestowed to her a gift a item pact personally from his collection of warfare. She chose the blade as a marking to her service to her master. Dragana has chosen to pact with the blade.

·       Rowan now in a state of deep contemplation discovering his master’s hidden message now sits in solitude thinking upon a traitor among the Silver Flame’s following.

Session-3

The four heroes began to rest as Balsa slowly modified Onarr’s sword with the Arcananide’s leg and construct a breastplate from the gear they brought back from the cave. Many went about doing little with their time. Onarr began to seek information on the whereabouts of his other clan members who had left the same time he had. Only hearing rumor’s of Ferrum’s whereabouts in the town of Metella. Dracana continuing her research of the unknown symbol and Cheddar doing her continual ritual of druid activities.

Rowan however found himself lapsed with the recent events unfolding around him finding himself recalling when he first moved to Twin-Rooke to begin his training as a Paladin to The Silver Flame. A voice called out to him, questioning what he pledged himself to. Swearing his devotion to their cause and to protect those who cannot protect them selves from the evil realms. He now swore his oath of devotion.

The Day before their newly build equipment was finished the tavern was in an uproar as word of a dire bear named three legs has now began to roam the area. The team quickly went out the next day and found where the creature burrowed itself. The Dire Bear proved to be a tactile match for the party quickly slaying the raging creature. They were offered a simple reward for their efforts and given the Bow and Quiver whom belonged to the Barkeeper’s deceased wife. They refused the bow but kept the quiver and set out for Metella when Balsa told them of his friend in the city.

It was not long for them to reach the new city having safe refuge due to Cheddar helping defuse an argument between a druid and a few scouts that had stumbled upon some sacred gardens by complete accident.

Metella however had a surprise for them when they found that an Orc Tribe was sitting on the outside of the front gate with both guards and orcs seemingly patrolling the town defenses together. A few queries later they discovered that the orc war-chief, Turg has put himself in a state of learning from the head of the Melfang southern defenses resulting in a very uneasy alliance between the two sides. They queried for Balsa’s friend who was known as Trinity to find that she serves as the headmistress for the wizard college of evocation and war magic. Trinity seemed to be eccentric offering a rather unexpected welcome and a new task for the adventures when it seems that the keep for the past two weeks had been in a very seclusive state with no guards allowed to enter or leave which is why she proposed that they should find out what was going on. They agreed and had to brave foul odors of Melfang’s sewers as they ventured toward the defense keep. The court yard was empty and eerily quiet. Entering the main keep they found that the remains of a guard rotting in the hallway. Signs the keep was attacked by an unknown enemy. The group ventured farther in to find a guard named Erron who explained the day of the attack and his own narrow escape as well as Caullent a prisoner who was serving time after he had his wife turn him in to collect on his own bounty. He warned them of Osirus the Bandit captain that was in the keep’s upper levels. They fought through several floors until the final confrontation with the Osirus who attempted to get away from the party only to fail. Leaving them to deal with the aftermath of the entire ordeal.

Session-4

Following the Apprehension of the Bandit leader Osirus. Riktor, the general of the Melfang southern defense fort and his assistant Turge the Orc War chief. The party briefed of the two on the situation and about the recapturing of the fortress discovering that Osirus had a map written in Sylvan leading to a unknown location concluded to be the possible hideout for Osirus’ organization. Riktor rewarded the adventures with exemption of Metella’s extended area taxes and left them to their own devices while sparring Kallent, a imprisoned monk who aided them in the confrontation. Trinity satisfied with their results rewarded everyone with a few old personal items and agreed to enchant Onarr’s blade. The process however would be time consuming given her inexperience with enchantment-based magic. A week passed with each of the party member’s own devices.

·       Rowan spent his time studying in Barravein’s School of Evocation and war’s library.

·       Cheddar had found herself spending time in the wilds outside of Metella looking for suitable ammunition to enchant.

·       Onarr spent time with Rowan as well looking for a suitable stand-in for his great sword the it’s place, a standard bastard sword while Rowan leaned in to purchase a longbow.

·       Dragona had taken to becoming curious of the potion of wild chance wondering what kind of reaction it would have with the arcananid venom they had gained in the goblin cave. She also decided to buy a few small discs from a bag labeled death haven unaware of what the weird herb does.

Most of their endeavors bore no long-term ill effects until one day the alarm had gone off suddenly resulting in a sudden call to action fighting an army of Sahr” Kahl Soldiers which had two basilisks among them. The fight was mostly uneventful until the sudden discovery of mechanical parts erupted from the entities. Except one as blood and harrowing screams came from the animated suit. The voice familiar to Onarr. Ferrum, a member of Onarr’s clan was imprisoned inside the mechanical suit forced to fight against his will. Barely breathing he was taken to a clergy to have his wounds healed. He was out for several days. Everyone coming to terms with the startling discovery. When he regained consciousness Ferrum told them of the weird factory in the valley mounds of the Koravar Mountain Range. Where their new mission has sent them post haste.

Session-5

The four heroes ventured forth into the depths of the factory, bracing the unknown mechanical monstrosities that lurked its halls. Following first into the mercenary corridors learning of the deeds of the gnome inventor.

The work of Erkin could be sensed continuously as they explored the many rooms as they searched for the entrance to the factory forge. In the warehouse they were ambushed by clockwork replicas of the mercenaries that were part of thee original security staff forcing a long drawn out fight having them in multiple areas of the maze like structure. Deeper into the abandoned segment covered in dust they found the massive smelting room. No staff still however what ever happened to them proved to be a mystery of their own merit. The adventures decided against freeing the imprisoned fire elemental knowing its rage was something they were far from ready for. Ticking in the stair weld could be heard like giant cogs grinding far below their location. A long thirteen minutes  they found a hidden stairway guiding them farther into the factory. Guided by the sounds of clockwork. A portal wide open held itself in a hidden shrine like alter that transported the heroes into a voided gap in time surrounded by hunks of metal and mana infused torches.

The team discovered a massive metalic door with multiple numbers; locked with no clues how it opens. They now serve a theory as to how it opens when a light blue wall correlated to a colored switch in a hallway reeking of the dead. Remnants of the Kukri’s Tooth, Ferrum’s former mercenary unit laid several days of decay in their rot. But an unknown second group was also discovered in a separate chamber. This other group looked to be several days older than the Kukri’s Tooth mercenaries. The biggest detail though was the discovery of an Amethyst made sword of familial design. No one could touch it except for Dragona who was able to hold it before being blasted with radiant energy emanating from the blade. On its former wielder’s shoulder was a deeply burned scare markings of an unknown symbol, one of a fist clenching on to a glowing stone that formed the shape of a crushed human heart. Onarr, now distrusting of Dragona has left in his mind that she will need to be interrogated after this adventure is concluded they now traverse westbound farther into the madness of the gnome’s lair.

Session-6

Starting the Ambush against a small colony of clockwork spiders that bared a startling resemblance to the real living creature. The group continued to wander the twisted halls of madness finding number’s marked on walls. Their minds held strong bracing for the worst as they traversed the gear hall to reach its southern corridors encountering an out of control blade spinning trap and twin clockwork soldiers and a heavily armored machine that slowly began to self-heal itself. To find the last few numbers the team dodged a barrage of arrows hidden behind a faux wall. It led the team to a final room Rowan almost tempted by greed lead him to fight an urge to fight animated suits but was convinced by Onarr to not engage in combat desiring to end the life of the gnome with what little resources the team has. They entered in the code found from the metal walls forcing all of the gears within the realm to suddenly halt in place. The dead silence was unfamiliar to them from the continuous grinding and colliding of metal. The new door that blocked their path rest open in silence.

Their encounter with Erkin was of a gnome gone mad, a strange contraption strapped to him. A helmet covered in gears slowly crushing into his head. They tried to interrogate him peacefully till his madness overtook him snapping his fingers calling forth the pillars around him to shift uncontrollably. Replicating exact duplicates of themselves with notable changes within their designs to fit a mechanical method.

The fight was long, hard, and bloody bout with Onarr falling to the ground unconscious to be narrowly saved by Rowan from death’s grasp. All while the gnome waited for this machine to slowly kill him. They quickly stopped his attempt to kill himself forcing a healing potion and a first aid kit upon him to stop the helmet from killing him. The interrogation lead to a few answers that have now led them into the conspiracy with a cult being center of the supposed attack and the gnome; a bystander fearing the entity known as Zal-tec from returning to the realm of mortals. The machine was his supposed attempt at achieving a kind of lichdom through the use of machinery over magic. Onarr swiftly dispatched his own brand of Heroic justice crushing the gnomes head via a fatal bite with his mouth. Immediately, the realm started to decay around them parts and parts falling into an endless abyss lost within the cosmic realms.

They returned to Metella to deliver their news and rest from the latest and thrilling tale of their adventure. The group after licking their wounds now make plans to investigate the Ash Wood. A petrified Forest that Cheddar found traces of a bandit hideout somewhere within the harrowing place. Only time will tell what adventures await within the mysteries of the petrified Ash Wood.

Session-7

The venture to the Ashwood was a uneventful endeavor it was only when the sight of the petrified forest understand that this was an act of the gods devastating the land. The pure destruction leaving a unpleasant thought of the true scale of the cosmic world laying as nothing but a mere scar along the multiverse. Passing one of the long-lost Elven Kingdoms locked up high into an Elven Oak that could rival the mountains of Onarr Homeland. They eventually rested for the evening only hearing strange noises briefly in the night. Statues had moved toward a unknown direction, familiar ones they had discovered the day prior. Following the remains of the Bandit captains note they find what could be described as a mansion, the courtyard shapeshifted into a jury-rigged fortress. The bandits to their surprise let them in in a desperate plea for help. Though hesitant they decided it would be for the better not having a plan for the approaching night. The petrified hoard came swiftly without warning the front gate being bashed to bits by a petrified hill giant. When the morning light breached over the horizon, they set out to find the reason of this occurrence. A Drow Druid from an underdark circle had been working on a way to cure the petrification done centuries ago disregarding the lives of those in that fortress. A quick and easily disposed of fight resulted in a deal to lower her barrier briefly in the day to allow those inside to escape and let her continue her research in peace. The leader of the smuggler’s left them early saying simply that he owed the adventures in the future something that the underworld he was a part of takes seriously. The party plans to venture to the harbor city of Ganaford.

Session-8

The travel to Ganaford outside of a cyclopes and a handful of wargs was a quick and easy journey. That’s not to say things were going well. The city of Ganaford was in high spirits upon their arrival. The Merchant’s Gambit, a multiday festival held by the Merchant Guilds the world over had selected Ganaford to be the host city for the event. The Party as a whole seeing this as a time for some Downtime in between adventures had split apart to perform their own fulfillments.

Onarr had ventured toward the War Birch, a Colosseum in the town housed inside an old Elven tree from the feywilds. He meant Goutreks, a Lizardfolk from the Alitoss tribe; Long hated by the Rimreaver Tribe. Their fight was something far to be expected from two warriors even of different clans. Goutreks told the story of Colcuss’ insanity resulting in his exile offering to lend aid should they fight the tribe head on.

Rowan Returned to the floating church. A massive warship built by the Order of the Silver Flame to council learnings. It was here where he and Onarr learned of the mysterious disappearances from Selk Fengust. A Cleric of the Flame’s teachings. Her older brother had disappeared.

Dragona sought out members of her patron. Sadly, none were in the town.

Cheddar wanting to see the wildlife of the oceans dove into the wharf to communicate with the sea life. She found that fish do not make very good socials.

In the evening the party entered one of the numerous bazaars held by the world’s guilds only to hear a shriek as a person muttering in demon tongue was rampaging through the bazaar. The party sprang into action to subdue the wild patron only to discover that it was a Maurezhi, a demon known to dawn the skin of whoever’s soul it consumes. Rowan’s call to duty came to mind as the party sets out to find how this creature came into the material plane.

Their investigation leads the Adventures to the Apartment complex of Harfien Fengust. The party chose to be safe breaking into an open window and have Cheddar and Dragona trek forward looking for information. This proved to be counterproductive however as the two were caught by an individual coming from the building’s kitchen. The party fled the scene shortly after.

Session-9

The group returned to the Apartment the next day deciding to be even more sneaky. Cheddar shape-shifted into a common house spider and slowly breached the building. She investigated the apartment going unseen discovering small details about the other members of the apartment complex. This lead their search a tavern near the harbor called The Hag’s Wreckoning where the bartender showed how well he knew the deceased victim. It led them to the noble household of the Sanagras a rich merchant family known for their outstanding political power and their underhanded business practices. Rather than meet with the two nobles however the party elected to trek into their vast hedge maze wondering if they would find clues to prove them guilty. Their shed, held a few dirty secrets with a floor caked in blood and decay. All four entered looking for any signs of the family’s guilt. Rowan and Dragona both looked in time to see in the shed’s rafters a white wolf like creature with a scorpion tail hiding above them ready to strike. The creature was known as a Shoovosa, a much more dangerous creature than the Maurezhi from the night before. It was a long and dangerous battle; Rowan nearly losing his life while Onarr and Cheddar were paralyzed by the creature’s poison. Rowan’s determination however brought him back from the brink to deliver the final blow. The reactions from the family confirmed that they were innocent upon discovery of the large creature.

It left them with the only possible suspect being from a small guild known as The Smith Burrow. They sized up their target and assaulted with a precise tactical precision. The culprit a smith teacher named Almier apprehended and now seeks judgement from the Silver Flame for calling upon the forces of the lower planes. The Adventuring party now slowly gears itself for the next big adventure.
